One of the oldest events in France dedicated to Japanimation, the highly successful Epitanime Convention held its 24th edition on June 3 and 4, 2017 at the EPITA Kremlin-Bicêtre Paris Campus. The event attracted nearly 2,500 visitors who were able to participate in several activities (conferences, role play exercises, a video game tournament, karaoke, concerts, a cosplay contest…) as well as meet many enthusiasts who, amateurs or professionals, keep the Japanese culture alive in France on a daily basis.
This year for the very first time, the Epitanime Convention hosted an international video game tournament. Organized in partnership with the Salty Arena association and dedicated to the Super Smash Bros. Melee and Wii U titles, this tournament attracted prestigious guests from around the world! With its Dantesque casting, the tournament was won by American Samuel “Dabuz” Buzby (Wii U Singles), Frenchman Mahieddine Tsouria (Melee Singles), French duo Mahie–Samplay (Melee Doubles) and French-Japanese duo Glutonny-Takuto “Kameme” Ono (Wii U Doubles).
The 2017 edition also placed French voice actors in the limelight, with the following dubbing artists joining in on the festivities: Chantal Baroin (Erza Scarlet in Fairy Tail, Fuu in Samurai Champloo…), Olivier Korol (Tatsuya Fujiwara in the film Death Note, Kunio Murai in GTO…), Arnaud Laurent (Nastu Dragnir in Fairy Tail, Kobby in One Piece…), Alice Orsat (Mitsuha in Kimi no na wa, Arya Stark in Game of Thrones…), Annabelle Roux (Sora in Digimon, Tinker bell in The Adventures of Peter Pan…), Laurent Sao (Yugi Muto and Yami Yugi in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pierre in Pokemon…) and Régine Teyssot (Nelson, Todd Flanders and even Ralph Wiggum in the Simpsons)!
