EPITA wins first place among French participants at GreHack

Once again, on November 15 and 16, EPITA‘s security and systems lab (Laboratoire Sécurité et Système – LSE) took part in the challenge organized by the Ecole nationale supérieure d’informatique et de mathématiques appliquées de Grenoble (Ensimag) as part of its international hacking research symposium, GreHack.

The winning LSE team at the 2013 GreHack CTF event

After the conferences and keynote speeches at the second edition of GreHack, Ensimag organized a “capture the flag” (CTF)-type hacking competition, a long, challenging event which takes into consideration all disciplines of IT security. This is the second time the LSE team took part and they brilliantly demonstrated their skills by taking first place, beating around 40 competitors.

This event counts as part of the CTF world ranking system (which lists the results of all the competitions which are part of “capture the flag” events and gives a weighting to all the results. Therefore LSE ranks #22 worldwide and is, for now (as the competition is not yet over) the top French team in this very specific discipline of IT security.

This is not the first time the team has shown such a strong performance, since they already finished in 5th place worldwide (beating all other French teams).
