A gamble with “Carré d’As”, Poker student association of EPITA

logo carre as.pngFollowing the July 4 tournament that marked the end of the 2009-2010 period, here is a recap from EPITA student Alban Perillat-Merceroz, president of the student association “Carré d’As” that participates in the promotion of poker.

How was the July 4 tournament?
The July 4 tournament, first tournament in partnership with Winamax – online poker company, brought together sixty people in a friendly atmosphere. The winner, Steve Grenier, a poker amateur, won the iPad that was at stake. Since then, he came back multiple times in our association. The next major tournament will take place in October.

How has the association evolved over the past one year?
We added Friday evenings into traditional poker events, which made it possible to organize more regular fixtures. The grants issued by the school and the revenue realized let us invest in professional equipment, tables and chips of high quality. The circle of players widened: not only more students from EPITA and IONIS Education Group, but also their friends and other fans from outside.

What are your plans for the next academic year?
The development of the association will be around three axes. First of all the Friday evenings, which I intend to expand by integrating them in a league that rewards the best players. Then the big tournaments. Finally, establishing an online championship, in partnership with Winamax. In addition to these three main axes, I would put in place poker classes and gambling initiation evenings, besides development sessions in the techniques and the calculation of probabilities. Especially since we’re fortunate to have within the association 2 or 3 former professional croupiers. The association will continue to participate in the build up of other major events involving students of the Institute, e.g. the integration weekend at the end of September, the Villejuif Nights, or the contest Prologin. It will also continue to offer equipment, chips and tables on loan.
